Summer from Sydney

            SUMMER
Yay! The first day of summer has finally arrived! Summer is by far my favorite season, It’s nice to finally be able to sit outside (as long as the weather stays warm) and enjoy the sun. With our Spanish banks beach day coming up I sure hope it will be sunny!  Also school is super close to an end I am even the last blogger (I’m pretty sure). But summer vacation is coming up and it’s time to get off our computers stop blogging for a while and enjoy the sun! (Don’t forget sunscreen!)

Busy Weekend

Hi, so sorry for the lack of interesting posts, but it’s just been a really busy week for me. Yesterday there were try outs for a team BC volleyball camp, and today was our “official” move. We got all our big strong friends to help us move all our furniture.

Moving and Weaving

Hey, so today my family and I moved into our rental house! Not the most eventful night, but definitely an experience that needed to be explored. So I was just wondering about what you all thought about our weaving exercise. I know I saw some people having slight difficulties, but I also know I wouldn’t want to be doing that all day. So I attempted to search for a weaving tutorial or something, but all I got was how to make a cap… try your best to enjoy!

Jokes. From Lucas

As for my last post, nothing too exciting has happened, so I thought about asking for some movie advice. I’m running out of movies to watch, and I was just wondering if you guys had any good movie ideas? Also, what movie are you looking forward to the most? The Dark Knight Rises? Breaking Dawn? Catching Fire? Leave a comment to let me know.
Now, on yet another unrelated topic, I have made up a another list of some lame and corny jokes. I got this idea from Wilson, who was spamming me really bad jokes, here it is:
What happens when you cross a singer and a rocking chair? -- you rock to the beat.

How do you mend a broken jack o' lantern? -- with a pumpkin patch.

what do you call a lease of false teeth? -- a dental rental

Where did the kittens go on the class trip -- to the meow-seum.

What goes tick-tock, woof-woof? -- a watchdog

What did the art dealer say when a man asked what a picture was supposed to be? -- a reflection of you.

what did the girl sea say when the boy sea asked her for a date? -- shore

What falls down but never gets hurt? -- snow

What kind of brush do you use to comb a bee's hair? -- a honey comb

How do you get a peanut to laugh? -- you crack it up

Who greets you at a haunted house? -- a host ghost

Why did the farmer bury all his money? -- to make his soil rich

Where can you find an ocean without water? -- on a map

What do you call a horse that likes arts & crafts? -- a hobby horse

Why do shoemakers go to heaven? Because they have good soles

What do you call an avid gardener? -- herb

If fruit comes from a fruit tree, where does chicken come from? -- a poul-tree

What do you get when you cross a grape with a lion? -- a grape nobody picks on

What did the tree say to the mountain? -- stop peaking at me!

What are sailors' favorite fruits? -- naval oranges

Where does a penguin keep his money? -- in a snow bank

Why did the reporter go into the ice cream shop? -- he wanted to get the scoop

Why was it hard for the geometry teacher to walk? -- she broke her angle

What do you call a monkey who loves potato chips? -- a chipmonk

What kind of trees sew? -- pine trees, they always have needles around

What did the plate say to the other plate? -- lunch is on me.

I hope you got a laugh out of at least one of these

Riddles from Lucas- answers tomorrow

Hey! So today Vincent came over and invented a new game! It doesn’t really have a title, but it was fun. We used a blow up beach volleyball and one of the two people would use a bat to hit it across the pool. The other person would try to catch it with a pool cleaner (a net to pick up leaves, bugs, etc.) there wasn’t really a point to it, but we decided to end it after we hit the ball over the hedge.
Now, on another topic,  I have comprised a list of the best and trickiest riddles i have heard. Comment to see if you can answer them

1- A boy was at a carnival and went to a booth where a man said to the boy, "If I write your exact weight on this piece of paper then you have to give me $50, but if I cannot, I will pay you $50."
The boy looked around and saw no scale so he agrees, thinking no matter what the carny writes he'll just say he weighs more or less.
In the end the boy ended up paying the man $50. How did the man win the bet?

2-It has a golden head
It has a golden tail
but it hasn't got a body.

What is it?

3- What kind of cheese is made backwards?

4- What is the next 3 letters in this riddle?
o t t f f s s _ _ _

5- A box without hinges, key, or lid,
Yet golden treasure inside is hid.

What is it?

6- Runs smoother than any rhyme, loves to fall but cannot climb!

What is it?

7- You feed it, it lives, you give it something to drink, it dies.

What is it?

8- A man was born in 1955. He's alive and well today at age 33. How is this possible?

9- I soar without wings, I see without eyes.
I've traveled the universe to and fro.
I've conquered the world, yet I've never been anywhere but home.
Who am I?

10- A magician was boasting one day at how long he could hold his breath under water. His record was 6 minutes. A kid that was listening said, "that's nothing, I can stay under water for 10 minutes using no types of equipment or air pockets!" The magician told the kid if he could do that, he'd give him $10,000. The kid did it and won the money. Can you figure out how?

Bonus RiddleHe starts and ends 2 common English words. One painful in love, One painful in everyday matter. Do you know what 2 words I must be?

The Avengers (a sort of "review")

Hey guys! On Sunday, I went to go see the Avengers with Liam, Tate, and Wilson. It was quite the experience to say the least. We re-bought tickets, waited in several line ups, switched theaters, and had the misfortune of sitting beside a man who laughed at everything. Literally, he would laugh whenever someone got injured, and he even laughed once when one of the characters was about die. Wilson was also more focused on eating MY popcorn then he was on the actual movie. The movie was pretty good nonetheless. It did have humorous scenes (although you would’ve thought it was a comedy if you heard the guy next to us), but was also an action packed thriller that featured some of Marvels elite. However, i do think that they needed someone to represent the X-Men, possibly...Emma Frost, since they don’t have any telepaths. Despite my hopes for the sequel, I’m sure that this movie will be worth your money (unless you bought 4 tickets like i did.)

The main characters featured in the Avengers from left to right:                                                                                    The Hulk, Hawkeye, Ironman, Nick Fury, Black Widow, Captain America, Thor.

The much needed: Emma Frost

Last Post from Anastasia

Hi, it is Anastasia again, and for my last post I decided I would talk about something really interesting that I did on the weekend with my family! We went to the Macmillan Space Center Planetarium, which is down in Vancouver! While we were there we got to go to the observatory where we we waited a 2 hour line to see Saturn close up with its ring and everything it was amazing! What I learned yesterday was that the telescope we were using was 650 times the human eyes power!!! It was an awesome experience! Here is a picture of what the telescope looked like.

May the 4th be with you

Hello boys and girls! It is Anastasia again!

As you all know it is almost May 4th, and you know what that means?!?!
"May the "fourth" be with you!  I'm not a Star Wars fan, BUT i thought it would be interesting to tell you guys about it!
May 4th is considered an official Holiday, by Star Wars fans to celebrate Star Wars culture and honor the films.

The reason they call May 4th "Star Wars" day also known as Luke Skywalker day, is because of the pun spoken on this day. But the thing is Stars Wars fans were not the first to introduce the line "May The Fourth Be With You", because when Margaret Thatcher was elected Britain's first female Prime minister on May 4, 1979, her party placed an advertisement in the "The London Evening News" that had said "May the fourth be with you, Maggie..

In 2011, the first organized celebration of Star Wars Day took place in Toronto, Ontario, Canada at the Toronto Underground Cinema. Festivities included an Original Trilogy Trivia Game Show, a costume contest with celebrity judges, and the web's best tribute films, mash-ups, parodies, and remixes on the big screen. The second annual edition is scheduled to take place on Friday, May 4, 2012!!!

Hi, it's Chris again and I’m here to talk to you about on what happened TODAY (April 24) in history. I looked on history.com and found that today is the day the Library of Congress was established. You can find the story on

I believe that they shouldn’t have every book in one library since the British burned the capitol along with 3,000 volumes of the Congress in April 1814.

Jump Rope for Heart

So yesterday we had an assembly about Jump Rope/ Hoops for Heart, I was surprised to see how many people put there hands up when the woman speaking asked who had been affected or knew anyone who had, had heart problems. My grandpa (papa) had a heart problem about two years ago (I must say I think it is from drinking to much wine) but he was okay. But everyone should get their fund raising on and collect as much as they can for Heart and Stroke! Also congrats to Bryce and Skylar for winning the basketball and skipping contest!

Ripple Rock

Ripple Rock
Hi, this is Klara again and today I am going to tell you about Ripple Rock. Ripple Rock was an underwater mountain , and at low tide it was only 9 feet under the water. At least 20  large boats and 100 small ones hit the underwater rock and sunk. About 110 people died. Something had to be done. So they decided to blow it up. 75 men worked hard to put explosives in shafts that were drilled into the mountain. At 9:30:02 on April 5, 1958, it happened. 635,000 metric tons of rock and water exploded up to 300 meters into the air. You could feel the ground shake from miles away. It was one of the biggest non-nuclear  explosions ever. I think this is a really important part of history in BC.

Field hockey by Klara

As some of you may know, I play field hockey and think that it is a really cool sport. Field hockey is harder than it looks. You can only use one side of your stick, and you can`t kick the ball or else the other team gets a free hit. This guy I am going to show you has practiced for years to do all the tricks he knows.

Klara's First Blog

Klara's First Post
Today I am going to show you a rugby haka.  Rugby is basically a more exciting game of football where you can only pass the ball backwards.  The Haka comes from New Zealand.  The aboriginal people (called the Maori) used to do the haka before they went into war. Now the New Zealanders do it before a rugby game to frighten the other team.

One of Liam's stories

(A story I've written, you may have read it already if you've been to the website where a couple of my stories are posted.)

I had a dream last night.

I was on an island. I can’t remember how I got there, but I knew that I’d been there before.

I remembered the rope, that I used to tie my supplies together.

A hook. I caught fish with it.

A knife. What had that been for?

A radio, damaged beyond any repair.

A broken mirror. As I looked at it, I saw pieces of my face reflected in the glass, distorted and misplaced.

A plane ticket. What was the name on it? It was too dark to read.

And papers. Papers scattered everywhere, blowing in the wind. Like birds.

The wind was quite loud.

It began to rain, and I was suddenly aware that I was practically naked. The wind began to grow louder, and rain peppered my skin like small pebbles.

I ran to a nearby cave as fast as I could as a palm tree came crashing down to the ground behind me. I pressed myself against the wall, panting. As I began to calm down, I realized I was leaning against something that wasn’t part of the wall. Something that broke in two. I fell backwards, hitting my head against the jagged stone.
My head felt very light for some reason as I saw drops of blood fall onto the sand.

Plop. Plop. Plop.

I staggered, trying to regain my balance, and leaned against the wall once again. Then I realized that thing that had broke didn’t have any business being there.

It was a skeleton. As I stared at it, I began to see another skeleton, half buried in the sand.

They were embracing.

I pulled them away from each other, trying to get a better look. The one buried in the sand had a few scraps of clothing on, nothing more.

Who was it?

As I looked at the second one, something caught my eye.

He or she was wearing a necklace. I grabbed it, and stared at the picture in the locket. In the dark, I could barely make it out, but as my vision adjusted, I realized I knew the woman. I knew the face. I knew the dark brown hair and the warm blue eyes.

And the ring. That looked stunningly familiar.

I had seen her before.

For some inexplicable reason, I began to cry.

Guest Blogger is BAAACK!

This is a movie review of the movie The Wages of Fear.

The Wages of Fear is an amazing movie. Unfortunately, it does not have the popularity that it deserves.  It's in French, and directed by Henri-Georges Clouzot. The story takes place in a South American Casablanca-like locale, where many come in, and due to lack of paperwork, citizenship and jobs, few come out. Those lucky few who do find jobs only get enough to pay the rent, nothing more. The only way out is to find work with the S.O.C. (Southern Oil Company), an American oil drilling company.  The first half of the movie (the majority of which taking place within the town cantina) follows the everyday life of the four main characters, who are Mario, Jo, Luigi and Bimba. Mario is an French playboy, who becomes companions with an ex-gangster Jo, also French. Mario’s Italian roommate, Luigi, is a happy go lucky hardworking man who has learned that unless he quits his job, his only means of support, he will die of lung cancer. The last is the Dutch Bimba, whose father was killed by the Nazis. When a S.O.C. oil field catches fire, they enlist four men to drive trucks filled with jerrycans of highly explosive nitroglycerin to the oil field. The slightest bump will cause the nitroglycerin to explode, obliterating anyone within 30 feet. Due to the poor condition of the roads, and the high danger of the assignment, each participant will receive $2000 US, if they are alive to collect their payment. The four men are Mario, Jo, Bimba, and Mario. At two drivers per truck, Bimba is paired with Luigi and Jo with Mario. This is the start of a nerve wrenching drive to the S.O.C. oil field.
The talent in this movie is superb. With Yves Montand as Mario, Charles Vanel as Jo, Peter van Eyck as Bimba and Folco Lulli as Luigi, this movie has a cast of highly talented actors playing the leads. They convey each emotion perfectly, and one feels as if these men really did drive the trucks on their voyage of death. The camerawork is amazing, showcasing all of the actor’s emotions flawlessly. The dialogue feels real, and not clichéd at all. Truly a classic, this movie deserves to be watched by all.

Weird Pet Facts by Jace

I (Jace) am posting again and this time it’s about pets! First I’ll talk about my cat named Einstein. He is a chubby dark brown and cream tabby with pale green eyes and is from the SPCA. Einstein enjoys eating, sleeping, and jumping up at people on his hind legs and battering their legs with his front paws. This morning I tripped on him while he was running and fell. I screamed really loudly which scared him and made him run even faster. After that I saw him hiding behind a couch with an expression on his face that said, “You hurt me!!!!” But Einstein wasn’t injured, and he’s gone back to his lazy, indulgent self.

These are some facts about pets I really enjoyed reading. I found them in a magazine called Pet Valu Companion.

  • Chocolate is poisonous to dogs and cats. Garlic shouldn’t be fed to cats, while grapes are toxic to dogs.
  • The memories of fish can last months, and they can also recognize each other.
  • 80% of dog owners bring their dog in the car, but just 17% use a restraint system. Also, 26% of dog owners place their dog in the front seat, though this can be hazardous.
  • Cat litter can be made using clay, pine, corn, wheat, recycled newsprint, and silica crystals.
  • Cat noses are 14 times more sensitive than a human’s.
  • The word hamster is related to a German word, ‘hamstern’, which means hoard. That’s not surprising since hamsters carry food around in their cheek pouches.

That took a very long time. Did you notice this and my other post are both about weird facts? This post took way longer, though.

My favourite quote ever: “I like nonsense, it wakes up the brain cells.”-Dr. Seuss.

Guinness from Jace

Hi, it’s Jace! I can’t believe how long this post has taken. For the last 20 or so minutes I’ve been sitting in a swivel chair, trying to come up with an idea, and watching a tiny fly crawl around in circles on the computer screen. But here are some facts from my Guiness World Records book.

Jake, a ginger tabby cat from Bronfield, Ontario, has SEVEN toes on each of his paws, and twenty-eight toes in total.

A Norwegian named Cecilie Skog conquered the North Pole, South Pole, and Mount
Everest in 1 year and 336 days.

The biggest known bunch of bananas had 473 bananas and weighed 130 kilograms.

The largest violin is 4.27 meters long and was completed on June 14 2010.

The 2012 Summer Olympic logo cost $645645 to design, and 2012 will be the third time London has hosted a Summer Olympics.

Let's Go Rangers (clap clap, clap clap clap)

Rangers Time!

Keaton here! Rangers play the Blackhawks tonight. Go Rangers Go. Hoping that Lundqvist gets the start! The King himself made 42 saves to shut out Boston, so hope’s up!  Trade market has been dead lately, Hope someone large will be traded (hopes up that Canucks acquire Ryan Getzlaf). Canucks won last night, and hope Jeff Carter, Rick Nash, and Steve Mason are all traded from Columbus, so the franchise can be sold (like the players, but there’s no fan support though). See ya!

Hi guys so as you noticed I got braces so hope fully I can answer your questions. Now, I’m going to list the questions on the left and leave answers on the right. Question Time!

     QUESTIONS                 ANSWERS

“did it hurt getting braces?”               no because I slept through
                                                             most of it.

“why did you get braces?”                because the front of my teeth are bent forward so I need it to bend back so my teeth are
                                                          normal.

“why did you sleep during
the (session)?”                                            because I was
                                                                    sleepy and I needed to
                                                                   wait for 20 minutes and
                                                                   I have short term
                                                                  Memory loss.

“so you can’t you eat anything                    Yes because if I eat
due to your braces?”                                   candy or gum then
                                                                     I  might brake my
                                                                     Braces because they are
                                                                    Sticky and could brake
                                                                   The special parts.
